Loading Process

As an example of our containerization process, I’m going to give you all a little guided tour of loading a whole John Deere 4920 sprayer into a container.  This particular sprayer was going to Australia, and has been pressure washed to like new condition to meet both customer and import requirements. Our tour will start as we have finished the major part of disassembling and cleaning the sprayer, and are beginning to put parts into the container.

Boom strapped to ceiling

Here we have a spray boom lashed to the ceiling.  This is a very common practice that allows us to use every cubic inch of space.  Notice the multiple yellow 5,000 lb test straps used to secure it against both the ceiling and wall to prevent bouncing during transportation.


Booms and Hubs

Here’s a closer view with the other boom up and the hub & axle assemblies in the back (the axles are behind the boxes). Where we have metal/metal contact, we try to pad with cardboard to protect the paint and condition of the parts, as you can see at the bottom left side.



Another layer of parts added! The key part of this picture you should notice are the bolts sticking out of the hub assembly on the left. When you work with Global Ag Exports, you get all the bots back where they came from, not all jumbled in a box!


Packed In

Now we’re really packing it in there! We really push to use all of the space available, but every single piece is strapped securely to either the container when possible, or to a much heavier piece when not.


4920 Chassis

Now it’s time for the main event! We try to break things down as far as possible, but that only goes so far. It’s tricky trying to get something this big into such a small space.  This particular time we’re using wooden blocks as skid pads to slide the chassis in and silicone spray to help move things along.

For big pieces like this we use chains and tensioners to secure them. There are 4 chains on the chassis total, and the tensioner handles are wired in place to prevent accidental opening. Our goal is for the container to arrive in exactly the same condition that it left in.



Here the tires are in and ready to roll! Tires get extra straps since they have a tendency to give slightly when pushed against the walls and each other.
